Woorijip Galbi in Ilsan – Honest Review of a 1977 Korean BBQ After a Viral YouTube Mukbang

I visited “Woorijip Galbi,” a Korean BBQ restaurant near Ilsan Station, after watching it on a viral YouTube mukbang video. Established in 1977, the restaurant recently renovated its exterior, giving it a modern look while maintaining its traditional roots.

Located just across the pedestrian crossing from Ilsan Station, heading toward Ilsan Market, the restaurant is easy to spot thanks to its updated signage and refreshed facade. Inside, the space is clean, simple, and well-suited for solo diners as well as groups. A large menu board hangs on the wall, clearly listing the available sets and prices.

I ordered the Pork Galbi and Kimchi Stew Set for two. The total price was 14,000 KRW, which breaks down to about 7,000 KRW per person. It’s quite affordable for a BBQ set in the current market. However, rice is not included and needs to be ordered separately for an additional 1,000 KRW.

The kimchi stew looked thick and red, but the flavor turned out to be quite mild. The pork and tofu were placed beneath the broth, making the initial impression a bit underwhelming. For someone who prefers bold, fermented flavors, it might fall short.

The pork galbi came marinated in a familiar sweet soy-based sauce. It was grilled on foil rather than charcoal, so there was no smoky flavor. The taste was soft and easy to enjoy, but lacked the depth or fire-grilled character that BBQ lovers might expect.

The accompanying vegetables were fresh and crisp, but cilantro was included in the mix. If you’re sensitive to its strong aroma, it can overpower the meat’s flavor. Personally, I found it distracting and would recommend removing it if you’re not a fan.

Parking in the alley is limited, so I recommend using the public parking lot next to Ilsan Station for a more convenient visit.

Overall, the price was reasonable and the meal wasn’t bad, but it didn’t match the energy or flavor excitement shown in the YouTube video. It felt more like a casual local meal than a standout experience. To be honest, the sundae soup restaurant inside Ilsan Market left a stronger impression.
