Master Your Trip with Google Maps: Find Hotspots, Hotels & Hidden Gems Like a Pro
Have you ever felt lost or confused while traveling, unsure where to go or what’s around you?
Most people only use Google Maps to get from point A to B—but it can do so much more.
Today, I’ll show you how to use Google Maps like a travel pro, even if you’re visiting for the first time.
1. Understand the Map Colors Before You Arrive
On Google Maps, roads aren’t just lines—they tell you a lot.
White roads indicate residential or quiet areas
Yellow roads mark busy streets, commercial zones, restaurants, shops, and cafes
If you're visiting a new place, follow the yellow streets. That’s where the energy is—and likely the best local spots too.
2. Use Street View to See the Real Place in Advance
Before booking a hotel or picking a restaurant, use Street View to check the actual surroundings.
Just drag the little yellow Pegman icon (bottom right corner) onto any road and see it in 360°.
You’ll know right away if the alley is sketchy or if the restaurant’s exterior looks clean and inviting.
3. Plan Your Route with ‘My Maps’
Go to Google My Maps and create a custom trip map.
You can:
Save your hotel, food spots, attractions
Color-code categories (e.g., red for food, blue for hotels, green for sights)
Add notes and share with friends
It’s the perfect way to organize your day-by-day route visually.
4. Compare Hotel Prices Directly in Google Maps
Click on the “Hotels” tab at the top after searching your destination.
You’ll see:
A full list of available hotels for your dates
Price comparisons across booking sites
Ratings, reviews, photos, and filters to set your budget
Perfect for finding budget stays with great reviews in central locations.
5. Search for Restaurants with Real Reviews
Hit the “Restaurants” tab to explore local spots based on ratings.
Reviews come from both locals and travelers
You can see photos, must-try menus, and real feedback
If you find a reviewer whose taste matches yours, click on their name and see their other recommendations too.
6. Use Google Maps in Korea Too
In Korea, many travelers still use Naver Map or Kakao Map—but Google Maps is catching up.
Especially in areas like Itaewon, Gangnam, Hongdae, or Busan Haeundae,
Most restaurants and hotels are now registered
Foreign language support (English) is better
Try combining Naver/Kakao for public transit, and Google Maps for planning, reviews, and local vibe.

오른쪽 하단의 노란색 피그맨(사람 아이콘)을 도로 위에 끌어놓기만 하면 끝.
그 골목이 깔끔한지, 식당 외관은 어떤지 미리 보는 것만으로 실수를 줄일 수 있어요.
3. ‘나만의 지도’로 여행 동선 짜기
Google My Maps에 접속하면,
가고 싶은 장소들을 등록하고 카테고리별 색상으로 나눌 수 있어요.
맛집은 빨간색, 숙소는 파란색, 관광지는 초록색으로 표시하면
하루 일정이 한눈에 정리되고 친구와 공유도 가능합니다.
4. 숙소 검색 + 가격 비교까지 한 번에
구글맵 상단 ‘호텔’ 버튼을 누르면
